Frequently Asked Questions

1. Why is shipping so expensive for Wall-sized templates?
UPS now makes any package over 48” automatically weigh 40lbs (no matter what the actual weight is). This makes the package very expensive to ship. You can get up to 4 Wall-sized Templates for the same shipping cost.
2. What does Grove Tools, Inc. offer?
We distribute trusted templates and methods for meeting facilitation, team development, and visual strategic planning.
3. I’ve never used Graphic Guides before. Where should I start?
We recommend using some of the easier templates. Meeting Start-up will align a group on what they are trying to achieve in a meeting and how they are going to do it. Another option is the Graphic History, which enables a group to capture lessons from its past. The Cover Story Vision is a brainstorming activity to get a group to think outside the box to envision an extraordinary future.
4. What kinds of products are available?
We offer various products, including visual planning templates, Graphic Guides®, kits, personal development workbooks, team performance assessments, books, supplies, and digital downloads.
5. Can I download products right away?
Yes, many products are available for immediate digital download (like PDFs and PowerPoints). Here is link to all of our downloadable products: Digital Downloads
6. What makes your markers superior to other markers?
The nib and the ink. Charters’ nibs have a chisel tip that allows for variable line thickness and are made of a sturdy material that will not get mushy. The inks are vibrant, non-permanent and odor-free. We have also increased the ink-carrying capacity so that our markers last longer. Also, the base is triangular, which keeps the Charters from rolling off tables.
7. Can I get a preview or sample before buying?
Yes. Some products, such as the Team Performance Online Survey, offer free sample downloads or demos. For pricing or demo requests, contact us via email.
8. I am interested in becoming a Graphic Facilitator. What products will be useful?
The best place to start is with The Grove’s Facilitation Guide Series. The Principles of Facilitation is the first in the series. It includes 40 basic principles organized around the four flows of activity that a facilitator needs to manage group process. Best Practices for Facilitation is a collection of 176 activities that a facilitator can suggest to a group to help accomplish its work together. Graphic Facilitation: Transforming Group Process with the Power of Visual Listening summarizes David Sibbet's experience as a graphic facilitator and presents a comprehensive guide for using interactive visual displays. 9. What formats are available for the templates and guides?
Products are available in a range of printed sizes (from personal to large wall formats) and digital formats (PDF or PowerPoint). Leader’s Guides are available in print or PDF.
10. How will these Graphic Guides help me develop a strategic plan?
The Graphic Guides were developed in conjunction with The Grove Strategic Visioning™ Process. They are tools that aid a group in determining key stakeholders, recording past experiences, and making sense out of current complexities, while making a case for change. The process and templates enable a group to imagine a desired future state that is shared by all. Each template was developed as a means to engage the entire group by documenting people’s exact words, leveraging each other’s thoughts, building patterns (by stepping back to see themes and disconnects), and reaching common ground quickly. The final output of this visioning process is a Graphic Gameplan, developed and agreed to by all, focused on actions to make the vision a reality. Strategic Visioning Kit
11. Why use Graphic Guides® wall-sized templates?
Graphic Guides templates start with colorful pre-printed metaphors that create a framework and open space for recording a group’s thoughts and ideas. For facilitators and group leaders, the templates offer visual roadmaps to the conversation without the need or worry of creating the tool yourself. The templates graphically aid in integrating analytic and creative processes for breakthrough thinking. They support dialogue in a way that helps groups see what is being discussed, which in turn leads to reaching agreements quickly. Graphic Guides promote group memory and are excellent for extending the conversation to those who were not in the room.
12. Do you offer workshops?
Yes. We offer both public and customizable client workshops, covering topics such as strategy, transformation, visioning, team performance, and graphic facilitation.
13. How can I use The Personal Compass in my organization?
For an organization’s vision to be truly shared, everyone should see where he or she fits within that vision. The Personal Compass can aid individuals at a personal level prior to, during or following visioning work done at the organizational level. When using The Grove’s Strategic Visioning Process, it can be used as pre-work for individuals participating in the process. Teams, work groups, coaches, HR evaluators, and mentors will also benefit from using The Personal Compass.
14. What is included in your courses?
Our courses combine organizing frameworks, step-by-step methods, best practice guides, and immersive experiences to help participants apply what they learn.
15. My organization tends to get stuck in the vision and can’t get to action. What do you suggest?
It is important to imagine potential futures through visioning. It is also critically important to provide traction for the vision through actions that can be implemented.

• Five Bold Steps helps a group determine priorities to be accomplished to reach the vision. See here
• The Organization Processes Map is an excellent way to identify all “soft” and “hard” processes that are impacted when an organization acts on those priorities. See here
• The Graphic Gameplan identifies and documents specific actions. See here
16. What are some ways to introduce the Drexler/Sibbet Team Performance™ Model (TPM) to a group?
One exercise is to use the TPM Puzzle (link) as a way to encourage group interaction and hands-on experience. Another option is to break into small groups to discuss when each group member experienced a “breakthrough” or “breakdown” in previous teams. Assess the characteristics embedded in their team that caused these. Then have each group plot those characteristics on the wall-sized TPM Poster using large sticky notes and discuss why they think the “breakthrough” or “breakdown” occurred in that stage. Step back and look for patterns and common themes.
17. What is the difference between the TPM Handout and the Abstract?
The Team Performance Model Handout is an 11" x 17" folder for orienting teams to the TPM. It gives the team member a visual guide to the stages of the Model.

The Team Performance Abstract is a 24-page booklet with an in-depth description of the TPM, including the history, background, and theoretical foundations of the Model.
18. Where do I get a Team Performance Survey assessment tool to use with the Team Performance Model?
19. How long do I have to return an item?
The item should be returned within 30 days from the date of purchase for a refund or exchange. After 30 days, refunds and exchanges will no longer be valid.
20. How are refunds processed?
Once your return is received and inspected, an email will be sent to you with the details of approval or rejection. Approved refunds are credited to your original payment method within a certain number of days.
21. Who pays for return shipping?
You are responsible for your own return shipping costs. Shipping charges are non-refundable. If you receive a refund, the return shipping cost will be deducted.
22. How can I get 10% off my order?
You can get a 10% discount code by entering your email address in the sign-up box on our website.
23. I’m in the process of designing a meeting. Which templates do you suggest?
Since each meeting has different goals or desired outcomes, you can email us at products@grove-tools.com or give us a call (415) 561–6127. We would be more than happy to talk over different options for your next meeting agenda.
24. What is the difference between Graphic Recording and Graphic Facilitation?
Graphic Recording is the act of mirroring conversation by writing and drawing on large paper displays in a way that participants can literally see what has been said. The graphic recorder supports and enhances the group process with little interaction with the participants.

Graphic Facilitation is the integration of graphics with facilitation skills. In this regard, graphic facilitation complements and enhances other facilitation techniques in a way that creates a visual dialogue to help move conversation and information more effectively.

You can learn both skills at our Principles of Graphic Facilitation workshop.
